Day 1 - 15 March 2016 Arrived in Reykjavik

The day didn't start too well - my SatNav failed part way into the journey! It eventually righted itself after about 45 minutes so normal life resumed. As I travelled through Luton I spotted a good omen - a van with Iceland written on the side. I arrived at Airparks and caught the shuttle to the airport and arrived with loads of time to spare. But not as early as the man who was 2 in front of me at security. He had arrived a day early! My iPhone was wonderful with the storage facility for my boarding pass - it worked a treat. Went through security quickly and efficiently but had a problem on the plane with seating, as they had changed planes. This caused them to flap about a great deal. I was moved two seats further forward but in a window seat. The views over Northern Scotland were spectacular with snow-capped mountains and many lochs. The area barren and dotted with a few dwellings. Cloud formations were beautiful, sprinkled with sunshine. The flight was fantastic and flown by a female (although she did have difficulty parking it!). We arrived 10 minutes early and half an hour after landing I was on the shuttle bus heading for Reykjavik. I changed buses and headed for the hotel. A smart hotel in the centre near the old harbour. I had 20 minutes to freshen up before heading down to a meeting in the lobby. There are only 3 of us on the course with 2 tutors - Niall and Charlotte. At 8pm we headed out for a meal at a fish restaurant near the hotel. It was a buffet night. I had a selection of marinated and smoked fish with some rye bread for starters, scallops, shrimps and mussels in a white wine and cream sauce, some fish stew, potatoes and vegetables for mains. For dessert I had cheese cake made with local yogurt and strawberry sorbet. Breakfast tomorrow between 7am and 9am and then off to Vik along the South coast, probably missing the falls, as they are very touristy and they want to show us other things.
