Just an amazing, amazing day. Weather totally wonderful - sunshine all day. Meal shortly and shooting the aurora tonight, so will fill details in later. Will try to get photos sorted. Until later or tomorrow, enjoy my photos!

Room too hot but wonderful accommodation. Up at 5.20am and off to Dyrholaey again. Did some light painting shots. Near disaster when my camera fell over on the tripod. Fortunately no damage! Moved to a spot to take the sunrise - spectacular! We beat the Japenese to the best spots! Back for breakfast at 9am, packed and on the road by 10.30am. Wall to wall sunshine all day.

10.55am - huge snowy mountains, vast flat plains and bright sunshine.

11.02am - through acres and acres of mossy boulders on either side of the road. These were created from the volcanic eruption in 1783. The lava covered 783 square kilometres.

Vatnajokull glacier in the distance. We stop for 90 minutes to photograph the boulders.

12.35pm - on the road again.

12.50pm - tea/coffee and cake stop!

1.12pm - back on the road. Temperature 8 degrees C.

1.23pm - driving through spectacular scenery - high cliffs with waterfalls on the left. Glacier getting closer. Boulders still dotted around in vast areas from the volcano eruption.

2.00pm - stopped at Hverfistljot for photos of river, etc.

2.20pm - on the road

3.10pm - stopped for petrol and food to eat on the go.

4.00pm - moved to dramatic scenery - ice and snow everywhere. The main glacier which feeds Jokulsarlon is in sight - feeling cooler.

Arrived at the Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon. Words cannot describe it. It is truly magical! A quick photo session at the lagoon and the ice beach.

5.55pm - arrived at our accommodation - a terrific place once again.

6.15pm - out for a shoot at the lagoon to catch the sunset. Seals splashing around in the freezing water.

7.15pm - back at our accommodation for our evening meal - lamb soup and local fish in a mango sauce.

10.00pm - off to try to capture the Northern Lights. Nearly 3 hours standing in sub zero temperatures. Very faint appearance but enhanced by the long exposure of 15 seconds.

1.30am - bed! Up next morning at 5.50am for a photo shoot on the ice beach!
